Dr. Ann George visited COHR on April, 2016 from the University of Illinois and gave the lecture on the topic "DMP1: A busy protein that functions in mineralized matrix assembly". Dr. George is a Professor at the Division of Oral Biology, University of Illinois, and an Allan G. Brodie Endowed Professor at the Brodie Tooth Development Genetics and Regenerative Medicine Research Laboratory. Her laboratory has studied the role of extracellular matrix proteins in biomineralization for over 20 years, with focusing on dentin matrix protein 1 (DMP1) and dentin phosphophoryn (DPP), both of which have been shown to have cell signaling function in addition to their role in the ECM. The team is now trying to regenerate tissues using various tissue engineering models, as well as synthesizing protein-based scaffolds for tissue engineering.
